Nintendo Switch Outsells Nintendo 64!

The global figures for Nintendo Switch as of 31 March 2019 now stand at 34.74 million units sold worldwide, above the 32.93 million units of Nintendo 64. The next hurdles for the Switch are Game & Watch (43.4 million units) and Super FamicomSNES (49.10 million units).

● Nintendo Co., Ltd. applied for an N64 trademark for purposes including video game program, controller for game machine, joystick for video game machine and TV game machine.

● Other trademarks applications include Pokémon and Pikachu (both non-game related), Nintendo Entertainment System and NES, plus the games Balloon Fight, Ice Climber and Zelda.

● Nintendo are now selling Nintendo Switch consoles without the dock in the My Nintendo Store in Japan at the reduced price of ¥26,978 ($244). The docked version costs ¥32,378 ($293)

● Capcom released Biohazard 7: Resident Evil Cloud Version on the Nintendo Switch eShop, with the first 15 minutes playable for free, and ¥2,000 for 180 days access after that.

● My Melody defeated Pompompurin 2-1 in the second first-round match-up of the 11th Japanese Splatfest, and will go on to face Hello Kitty in the final on 09 June 2018.

● SmileBoom announced that the next title in the Petit Computer series of software development apps will be called Puchikon 4 SmileBASIC, scheduled for Fall 2018 release.

Brownies are working on a Nintendo Switch title that they’ll reveal this Summer. The game apparently will not be an actual RPG, although is “something kind of like Egglia”.

● The FuRyu JRPG Exstetra and the Bandai Namco Entertainment games Tenkai Knights Brave Battle and Toriko Gourmet Battle! will be removed from the Japanese 3DS eShop next week.

● Kazuhisa Wada of Atlus spoke with Dengeki PlayStation and said that development for Persona Q2 has begun although there still isn’t a release window for the game.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp saw the second Fishing Tourney start in Saltwater Shores, as well as the new campers, Carmen and Zell arrive.

Fire Emblem Heroes saw both the Special Heroes: Bridal Bloom and Bridal Blessings summoning events begin, along with the Summoning Focus: Tempest Trials+, Tempest Trials+: Loki’s Flames and more.

Super Mario Run saw the Gold Goomba Lite Event begin WITH an easier chance to get the Captured Goomba Statue, Captured Hammer Bro Statue, Captured Chain Chomp Statue and the Cappy Statue.

Pokémon GO will soon see the Alolan forms of Pokémon originally discovered in the Kanto region and first seen in Pokémon Sun Moon arrive in the coming weeks!

● DMM Games’ school girl-meets-alien invader heavy metal rhythm game Gal Metal will release in the West this Fall with Marvelous publishing in Europe and XSEED Games in North America.

Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Welcome amiibo and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D are all joining the Nintendo Selects range in Europe on 29 June 2018.

● Nintendo opened up Mii Studio at accounts.nintendo.com/mii_studio where users can create and edit Mii characters in their web browsers for use in their Nintendo Account and any applicable game.

● Tommo announced two more licensed Super Famicom reissues with Shodai Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun for 28 June and Return of Double Dragon (Super Double Dragon) for 12 July 2018.

● First of all, apologies for those in Europe who couldn’t access my website earlier, due to changes in privacy policy in EU law. It should now be back to normal. The top story is Nintendo Co., Ltd. applying for a trademark for N64 for purposes including video game program, controller for game machine, joystick for video game machine, TV game machine and more. ● SmileBoom announced that the next title in the Petit Computer series of software development apps will be called Puchikon 4 SmileBASIC. More information will be in tomorrow’s issue of Weekly Famitsu where we’ll hopefully get at least a release window.

● The official Kirby Twitter account confirmed that Daroach will be one of the Dream Friends playable in the Summer update to Kirby Star Allies. The other two Dream Friends are rumoured to be Adeleine and Dark Meta Knight.

● Turtle Cream confirmed that the platformer 6180 the moon will be releasing in Japan ‘soon’. I’m unsure whether they’ll self-publish or Rainy Frog will like they did with the Wii U and New Nintendo 3DS versions.

● SNK will publish the fighting game SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy in Japan on 06 September 2018, according to the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu who also confirmed that Love Heart has been added to the roster.

● Emiko from Sayonara Umihara Kawase is the latest fighter announced as playable in Blade Strangers. Teaser trailer here.
