The Crown Tundra Release Date
The Pokémon Company have announced that The Crown Tundra Expansion Pass will be available on October 23 (October 22 in the Americas).
The Crown Tundra
The Crown Tundra is the second area you’ll be able to visit with your Expansion Pass. See for yourself this vast landscape, with its drifts of glittering snow! In this frigid area with jagged, snowy mountains, people have settled in a small, tight-knit community.
Early in your adventures here, a man named Peony will appoint you as the leader of his exploration team in the Crown Tundra. You’ll be tasked with investigating the reaches of this frozen land—including the depths of a Pokémon Den, something you’ve so far been able to glimpse only during Max Raid Battles!
What’s more, it seems many Legendary Pokémon make the Crown Tundra their home.
Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass set
The physical Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass sets launch on November 6 priced at ¥9,558 (box art here). Each contain the core game (either Sword or Shield), both DLC sets (The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra), 100x Poké Balls, and Pikachu and Eevee Uniform codes (pictured here). All included software comes preloaded on a single game card.
In Dynamax Adventures, you’ll team up with three other Trainers to explore a Pokémon Den where Dynamax Pokémon are said to lurk! You and your fellow Trainers will choose rental Pokémon to bring along into the depths of the den. Win the battle, and you’ll have the chance to catch the Pokémon. But if you lose a battle, you’ll be ejected from the den!
Newly discovered Pokémon
Legendary Pokémon that will be appearing in The Crown Tundra include Calyrex, Regieleki, and Regidrago. New Gigantamax forms include Gigantamax Venusaur and Gigantamax Blastoise. New Galarian Forms include Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. A Shellder bite can also cause Slowpoke to gain the Poison type and evolve into Galarian Slowking!
Legendary Pokémon are back!
With The Crown Tundra, you’ll be able to encounter every Legendary Pokémon that’s appeared in the main series of Pokémon games! Find Legendary Pokémon during your travels in the Crown Tundra or while you’re on Dynamax Adventures, and you’ll have a chance to catch them! Some Legendary Pokémon appear only in the Sword or Shield Expansion Pass.
The Ability Patch
In The Crown Tundra, you may get new items called Ability Patches. If you use one on a Pokémon, its Ability will change to its species’ Hidden Ability, if it has one! With an Ability Patch and a helping of Max Soup from the Isle of Armor, you can bring out the Hidden Ability of the first partner Pokémon you chose and give it the capability to Gigantamax as well.
Galarian Star Tournament
Once you progress far enough in The Crown Tundra, you’ll be able to participate in the Galarian Star Tournament, held in the city of Wyndon! This tournament is Leon’s brainchild, intended to fire up the spirits of the Galar region. Once you accept Leon’s invitation, you’ll be able to pick a partner and team up for a Multi Battle tournament!
Special Event with Pikachu
To celebrate the launch of The Crown Tundra, there will be a special in-game event for players to receive eight different Pikachu for their teams from Tuesday, September 29 until Friday, October 30. When Trainers enter the passwords into their Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield game, they can obtain Pikachu—and not just one but eight, each donning a different cap.
Get a Special Melmetal in Pokémon HOME
If you send a Pokémon to Pokémon HOME from Pokémon GO, you’ll receive the Mythical Pokémon Melmetal as a Mystery Gift in Pokémon HOME. This Melmetal is a special one that hasn’t been available before—this Melmetal can Gigantamax in any battle in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield that allows it, such as a Max Raid Battle!
