The Animal Crossing: New Horizons game has become the first Nintendo Switch title to pass the 5 million physical sales mark in Japan.

This week’s Famitsu charts reveal that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold 5,004,720 physical copies in Japan in three months. The game launched on March 20 and hit the 5 million mark by June 28. This number includes download card sales and copies bundled with the Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch set, but not the download version.

Famitsu also report that total sales for the previous entry Animal Crossing: New Leaf are approximately 5,109,000 million for Nintendo 3DS in Japan. This number includes the Happy Price Selection and Welcome amiibo versions of the game. Again this number also includes download cards and bundled software, but not download versions.

Another achieved this week is with the Nintendo Switch system, which has now sold 14,050,313 units in Japan. This period is from March 3, 2017, until June 28, 2020. The above number also includes sales from the Nintendo Switch Lite. The other current Nintendo system, Nintendo 3DS, is at 24,528,543 units (as of June 21, 2020).

Finally, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also became the fifth Nintendo Switch title to hit the 3 million sales mark, and it now stands at 3,005,043 units sold. It joins Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Pokémon Sword & Shield, and Splatoon 2 as the Switch games to have achieved that target in Japan.
