● Newly announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is Byleth, who arrives 28 January (29th in Japan) along with Mii Fighter costumes from Assassin’s Creed, Rabbids, Mega Man, and Cuphead. Six more DLC fighters will be announced with the second pass. Pre-orders (open 28/29 January) will receive Ancient Soldier Gear. Check out our dedicated posts here and here.

● Other than Smash, the top story today is the Fire Emblem: Three Houses Wave 4 DLC headlined by the Cindered Shadows side story and new characters Balthus, Constance, Hapi and Yuri. Introduction video posted here.

● Check out some new screenshots for Animal Crossing: New Horizons from Famitsu (hence the watermark).

● The four types of online coop missions (Giant Bosses, Total Bounty, Timed Defence, and Base Capture) for One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 at this post.

● There will be a Dragon Quest Builders 2 “Winter Keijiban Special Contest Result Presentation” video on 22 January at 21:00 JST. There will be no new information.

● Oizumi Amuzio updated Lethal League Blaze in Japan, adding the character Dust & Ashes, with an additional costume pack DLC. Artwork and character reveal trailer posted here.

● 505 Games updated the Switch version of Bloodstained:Ritual of the Night to Version 1.04 improving stability issues and performance, as well as bug fixes.

● Taito’s latest Switch game is the Puzzle Bobble-esque Touhou Spell Bubble which releases in February priced at ¥5,800. The game features over 20 Touhou Project characters as well as a Touhou soundtrack. Screenshots posted here.

● Regista announced the slapstick fantasy love comedy RPG Murasama no Sword Breaker for release on the Japanese Switch eShop next week (23 January) priced at ¥1,496 with preloads 34% off (¥987). Promo video posted here.

● Tom Create announced the action party game Dairantou! Jewel Wars, also for release on the Japanese Switch eShop on 23 January priced at ¥999. Promo video posted here.

● Also releasing next week is the heavy metal platformer Valfaris from eastasiasoft which is available to preload now for ¥2,000 (the regular price is ¥2,500). Japanese trailer posted here.

● Rainy Frog will publish the RPG / academy game Valthirian Arc ~Hero School Story~ on the Japanese Switch eShop on 30 January priced at ¥1,500. Japanese trailer posted here.

● Ratalaika Games announced the 2D platformer FoxyLand 2 will be coming to Switch next week priced at ¥610. Only Japan is confirmed at time of posting, but it will likely be worldwide.

● The final new announcement for next week is the vehicle adventure game FAR: Lone Sails from H2 Interactive priced at ¥1,507. Japanese trailer posted here.

● The only game to shadow drop on the Japanese Switch eShop today is the puzzle platformer Hob: The Definitive Edition from Perfect World priced at ¥2,378.

● Two new Japanese Switch eShop listings confirm that 198X will release next week priced at ¥980 with Bookbound Brigade releasing the week after priced at ¥2,200. Trailers for the latter posted here.

● JanduSoft / Starsign updated Neonwall / Neon Road, adding support for the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit.

● This week’s Japanese Switch preloads include Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition for ¥1,990, CODE SHIFTER for ¥2,000, Murasama no Sword Breaker for ¥987 (regular price ¥1,496), Valfaris for ¥2,000 (regular price ¥2,500), and Valthirian Arc ~Hero School Story~ for ¥1,500.

● Hound Picked Games permanently reduced the price of NAIRI: Tower of Shirin on the Japanese Switch eShop today, from ¥1,190 to ¥480.

Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition will add a new “FREE STYLE” system, where you can change style with a single button press to “Trickster” (UP), “Royal Guard” (DOWN), “Gunslinger” (LEFT), and “Swordmaster” (RIGHT).

● And check out screenshots for SEGA AGES Sonic the Hedgehog 2 featuring Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.

Dr. Mario World saw a new Clinic Event Help Piranha Plant! begin which was promptly suspended due to issues with the stages. A Dr. Bowser Jr. Pack is also available to purchase which includes Dr. Bowser Jr. and 260 x Diamonds, and is priced at ¥2,440.

Fire Emblem Heroes will see Tap Battle: Illusory Dungeon: Wings Carry Me begin tomorrow featuring music from Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore. Today saw a new map, Support from Afar, available in Tactics Drills: Grandmaster.
