Nintendo are warning its customers that many Nintendo eShop games will increase in price in Japan from 01 October 2019 at 00:00 due to the country’s consumption tax increase from 8% to 10%. If you commit to purchase before 23:59:59 JST on 30 September, then you will pay the game’s original price. This will affect Nintendo Switch, 3DS, and Wii U software, with packaged versions likely adjusting their price accordingly. Not all games will increase in price and Nintendo warn buyers that many eShop videos may not reflect the actual price as of 01 October. Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions will also increase (see this post for more).
Nintendo are removing Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 from the Japanese Wii U eShop on 18 September at 23:59 JST. The sales of the Nintendo Switch versions will not be affected. No reason was given for the removal. Many thanks to Naruki.
Nintendo have stopped offering Nintendo 3DS and Wii U software discounts as a My Nintendo reward, with the old page now saying “ERROR!” and “This page can not be found”. Check out the complete list of current Japanese rewards here.
Square-Enix have announced that the required free space for Dragon Quest X Version 5 (or Dragon Quest X Ibara no Miko to Horobi no Kami Online to give it its full name) will be 32 GB, up from 24 GB. Wii U owners will require external storage in order to download the game. The game releases on 24 October. Pre-order the Switch version here and use the code JPNINTENDO for 5% off. Please note that the Switch version will not play with a non-Japanese ISP.
Nintendo have announced that the Wii U has sold 13.56 million units worldwide as of 30 June 2019. The system originally launched on 18 November 2012 and had sold the same 13.56 million units as of the last financial quarter. Software increased from 102.85 million units to 102.91 million.
Nintendo have announced that Mario Kart 8 has sold 8.44 million copies worldwide as of 30 June 2019 and is the best-selling Wii U game. This does not include sales of the Deluxe version. The game originally launched on 29 May 2014 and had sold the same 8.44 million copies as of the last financial quarter.
The niconico service for Wii U will end soon with sales of the Premium Tickets scheduled to end on 01 August, delivery of the software will end on 28 October, with the service totally ending on 28 November. Many thanks to Naruki.
