Sunset Riders And More Announced For Switch

Hamster’s 242nd Arcade Archiver livestream was a PC Engine mini special and included the announcements of three new Konami titles including the pictured 1991 side-scrolling run and gun game Sunset Riders for Switch and PS4, the 1985 shoot ’em up Gradius for Switch, and the 1990 shoot ’em up Trigon (also known as “Lightning Fighters”) for Switch and PS4. All three titles will be added to the Arcade Archives series in the near future. Check out the Schedule for a near-complete list of all upcoming games coming to Japan.

Konami Code Creator Passes Away

Game music composer TECHNOuchi (Yuji Takenouchi) has tweeted that the Konami Command (Konami Code) creator Kazuhisa Hashimoto has passed away. The Konami Code was first used in the pictured Gradius game where pausing the game and inputting ↑↑↓↓←→←→BA(Start) gave the player multiple power-ups. The code has subsequently appeared in countless games with varying rewards in each. [Thanks, Naruki]

New Goemon Trademark

Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. have applied for a new trademark (商願2019-136806) in Japan for ゴエモン (Goemon) for a huge number of purposes including both “game program” and “game software”. Nintendo & Intelligent Systems Apply For Multiplayer Patent

Nintendo Co., Ltd. and Intelligent Systems Co., Ltd. have applied for a new “Information processing” patent (特開2019-180720) in Japan. The patent aims to improve interest in a multiplayer game taking into account virtual points performed by a plurality of users belonging to a plurality of teams. No specific title is alluded to in the 37 page document other than just a “battle game”, with this patent based on the result of said battle game, adding the scores of the virtual area for each team. A determination is then performed on the basis of this score, which is stored in the storage device. After this has been performed a plurality of times, the result of the multiplayer game is then satisfied. The patent also states that its description is merely illustrative, and various modifications and variations may be made.

Pawapurokun Pocket Trademark

Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. have applied for a パワプロクンポケット (Pawapurokun Pocket) video game trademark in Japan. Pawapurokun Pocket is the name for the Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu portable series with past entries on Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo DS. Actual application added below. Konami Announce PC Engine Mini

After Nintendo, SNK, Sony, and Sega have entered the classic console market; it’s Konami’s turn, who today announced a PC Engine mini, PC Engine CoreGrafx mini, and TurboGrafx-16 mini, although no release date nor price. The western versions come pre-installed with Alien Crush, Dungeon Explorer, New Adventure Island, Ninja Spirit, R-Type, Ys Book I & II, and more to be announced. The Japanese version comes with Akumajou Dracula X: Chi no Rondo, Dungeon Explorer, THE Kung Fu, PC Genjin, Super Star Soldier, Ys I & II, and more. Trailers added below…
