Nintendo Switch Sales Top 68.3m
Nintendo have revealed that the Nintendo Switch family of systems has now sold 68.30 million units worldwide as of September 30, 2020.
The number above is for worldwide consolidated sales in units life-to-date of both the original Nintendo Switch model that initially launched on March 3, 2017 (and which also includes the updated SKU with the improved battery life that became available around mid August 2019) and the Nintendo Switch Lite system which launched on September 20, 2019.
Nintendo Switch sold a further 6.93 million units in the second quarter period (July 1st – September 30th) with 4.98 million of the original model and 1.95 millions of the Nintendo Switch Lite. Nintendo 3DS hardware sold approximately 70,000 units with production ending. Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. is the next new hardware, launching next week.
Nintendo Switch has now overtaken the Family Computer (which has sold 61.91 million units) in hardware sales, and now trails only the Nintendo 3DS (75.94 million units), Game Boy Advance (81.51 million units), Wii (101.63 million units), Game Boy (118.69 million units), and Nintendo DS (154.02 million units) as the most successful Nintendo system ever.
Switch software sales are 456.49 million (behind Famicom at 500.01 million, Game Boy at 501.11 million, Wii at 921.69 million, and Nintendo DS at 948.69 million) but are being driven this fiscal year by the likes of Animal Crossing: New Horizons (14.27 million), Super Mario 3D All-Stars (5.21 million), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (4.21 million), and Ring Fit Adventure (3.11 million).
