Animal Crossing: New Horizons Sells 26m

Nintendo have revealed that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold 26.04 million units for Nintendo Switch as of September 30, 2020.

The number shown above for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is for worldwide consolidated sales in units life-to-date, and also includes both the software units bundled with Nintendo Switch hardware, along with the downloadable version of the game. Animal Crossing: New Horizons released for Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2020, with the sales numbers being for a little over a three month period. 

New Horizons is now the best selling game in the Animal Crossing series with the Animal Crossing: New Leaf game (including the updated Welcome amiibo version) selling 12.55 million units on Nintendo 3DS since launching in late 2012 in Japan and in mid 2013 worldwide, and the Nintendo DS game Animal Crossing: Wild World selling 11.75 million units since it launched back in 2005.

The best selling Nintendo Switch game worldwide is still Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which has amassed a total of 28.99 million units worldwide. However, MK8D had an almost three year head start on ACNH, originally launching on April 28, 2017. In addition: Paper Mario: The Origami King has sold 2.82 million units since July and Super Mario 3D All-Stars has sold 5.21 million units since September.

Nintendo 3DS software above 10 million sales worldwide are Mario Kart 7 with 18.92 million units, Pokémon X & Y with 16.49 million units, Pokémon Sun & Moon with 16.20 million units, Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire with 14.34 million units, New Super Mario Bros. 2 with 13.37 million units, Animal Crossing: New Leaf with 12.82 million units, and Super Mario 3D Land with 12.77 million units.
