Super Mario Bros. Blu-ray Re-release
TC Entertainment are re-releasing the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie on Blu-ray Disc in Japan on December 4, priced at ¥4,180.
The live-action Super Mario Bros. film was largely considered a critical and commercial failure upon its original release, although has built up a cult status in the years since. The story sees the Mario brothers (Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo) set out on a mission to rescue the kidnapped Princess Daisy (Samantha Mathis), who is being held in a parallel dimension by President Koopa (Dennis Hopper).
Despite successfully kidnapping Daisy, Iggy and Spike forgot to bring back her rock in which to merge Koopa’s world with the human world. The two worlds eventually merge, and Mario and Luigi finally square off with President Koopa in combat, with the aid of the street-musician Toad, the dinosaur Yoshi, and others, before Koopa transforms into a Tyrannosaurus rex, for the film’s climactic scenes.
The Super Mario Bros. movie (or Super Mario Makai Teikoku no Megami as it’s known in Japan) is available to pre-order now on Amazon, and will come with about two hours of added bonus footage including the This Ain’t No Video Game documentary, along with a making of video, several trailers, and a dubbed version of the TV broadcast. Japanese subtitles and dubbing are also included with the release.
