Nintendo Apply For 8 New Trademarks
Nintendo Co., Ltd. have applied for eight new trademarks in Japan including for Donkey Kong Country. Check out all eight below…
The first trademark (商願2020-108959) is for エンテイ (Entei) and is a joint Nintendo Co., Ltd., Creatures Inc., and Game Freak Inc. application. Entei embodies the passion of magma. This Pokémon is thought to have been born in the eruption of a volcano. It sends up massive bursts of fire that utterly consume all that they touch.
The second trademark (商願2020-108997) is for the GAME & WATCH logo (pictured). The original handheld device included a game and could also be used as a watch to tell time, with the original Game & Watch series selling more than 43 million worldwide. Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. launches on 13th November.
The third trademark (商願2020-108998) is for BOWSER’S FURY which launches as part of the enhanced version of Super Mario 3D World for Nintendo Switch on 12th February 2021. Related is the seventh trademark (商願2020-109002) which is for the Japanese title of the Bowser’s Fury game with FURY WORLD.
The next batch of trademarks are also all related with MARIO KART LIVE HOME CIRCUIT (商願2020-108999), HOME CIRCUIT (商願2020-109001), and マリカーライブ (商願2020-109003). The latter translates to Mario Kart Live. Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which is available in Mario or Luigi models, launches on 16th October.
The final trademark (商願2020-109000) is for DONKEY KONG COUNTRY which originally saw a trilogy on the SNES, all developed by Rare, with latter games developed by Retro Studios. The last entry was 2018’s Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on Nintendo Switch, a port of the Wii U game, which added Funky Kong.
The Donkey Kong Country trademark is for 45 products and services including for “home video game program”, “downloadable video game program”, “smartphone program”, and related.
The filing date of all eight trademarks were made on September 2, 2020, with the applications published today in Japan (September 15, 2020). This is the third week of Nintendo trademarks posted this month with the others being for INK YOU UP (full details available here) and for Pi!car! (full details available here).
