R-TYPE Ending Distribution
KONAMI will be removing the PC-Engine Virtual Console game R-TYPE from the Japanese 3DS and Wii U eShops on June 30 at 10:00 JST.
The PC Engine version is based on the overseas release that combines both “R-TYPE I” and “R-TYPE II” into one package (the Japanese release was spread across two game cards) and is a relatively faithful port of the horizontally scrolling shoot ’em up, by Hudson Soft.
The aim of the game is to destroy the POW armor where 1 of 6 different units will appear, which you can then use to power up your R-9. Equip Bits and obtain Laser Units to make the Force appear and to power it up. The Force can then be integrated into or separated from your R-9.
Make the most of your weapons, including the Reflecting Laser Beams, Air-to-Surface, and Antiaircraft Lasers. Keep pressing the fire button to fire blasts from the Beam Cannon.
Press and hold the fire button to charge the Beam Gauge, then release it to fire a devastating Wave Cannon blast! The longer you hold it, the stronger the blast!
The ultimate highlights are the N32bosses that await you at the end of each stage, including a stage that pits you against a giant warship!
No reason was given for the removal but it is expected to be licensing issues with the license holders, Irem. R-TYPE is priced at ¥628 and requires 21 Blocks on 3DS or 77 MB on Wii U.
R-TYPE appeared on the 3DS Virtual Console on February 26, 2014, and on Wii U on April 30, 2014. The arcade version first released on July 1, 1987, with the PC Engine port arriving two years later. Check out the introduction versions for the Virtual Console versions below…
