Wednesday Update: Piranha Plant Now Available, Huge Pocket Camp Update, Plus Much More News!

● Nintendo updated a handful of their top games including Piranha Plant finally playable in Version 2.0.0 of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate along with Partner Pikachu, Partner Eevee, Dice Block, River Survival and Golden Dash Mushroom Spirits, many character balance adjustments, bug fixes and more. New trailer posted here.

● The smart device game Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp received the huge update that President Shuntaro Furukawa alluded to several months ago, adding new Blathers’s Treasure Trek and Pete’s Parcel Service features, three new fruits and much more (full details here). 10 new animals are also available (all 10 pictured here).

Splatoon 2’s Version 4.4.0 update was less impressive by comparison with the 10 new weapons not added just yet. Players saw balance adjustments to many main weapons, several special weapons, and to Ink Resistance Up. Several terrain changes were also made to the Kelp Dome stage (more info here).

Mario Tennis Ace(s) will be updated to Version 2.2.0 on Thursday night/Friday morning adding Boom Boom to online (trailer here), along with a Court Selection screen, the return of the Co-op Challenge Boo Hunt, the new the Hosted Match mode, and Toad Tennis Wear!

● THQ Nordic accidentally revealed Darksiders Warmastered Edition for Nintendo Switch in an uploaded video which has since been removed (it’s still readily available online). I’ll make a separate post once it’s been officially announced.

● Koei Tecmo Games announced a postponement of the horse racing simulation game Winning Post 9 from 14 March to 28 March “To further improve the quality”.

● A Mega Man themed Spirits event was also announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate beginning on Friday for three days. Legend-class spirit Dr. Wily, Ace-class spirit MegaMan Volnutt, and spirit Bass will all appear for a limited time.

● Square-Enix updated Dragon Quest Builders 2: Hakaishin Shidoo to Karappo no Shima adding the post-game Kaitaku Island, the Erdrick’s Talisman item, more extensive conversations, the ability to take better photographs (removal of fog), bug fixes and more.

● QUByte Interactive announced that they have partnered with Strictly Limited Games to release a physical version of the shoot ‘em up VASARA Collection for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Vita ‘soon’.

● Team17 announced that a free update is coming soon to Overcooked! 2! in the teaser trailer here.

● Kairosoft announced the school building simulation game Meimon Pocket Gakuin 2 (Pocket Academy 2) for release on the Japanese Switch eShop next week (07 February) priced at ¥1,200. The game is expected to release worldwide like all other Kairosoft Switch releases. Switch version trailer posted here.

● Fellow Traveller announced that the slow life adventure game The Stillness of the Wind will also release on the Japanese Switch eShop next week (07 February) with price TBD. Launch trailer posted here.

● Hamster’s only Nintendo Switch title this week is the classic 1980 Nichibutsu shooter Arcade Archives MOON CRESTA priced at ¥823. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners also see World Heroes Perfect (it’s already available on the Switch eShop).

● After two releases on Nintendo 3DS, Starsign published the second Nintendo Switch entry in the puzzle game Ping Pong Trick Shot series with Ping Pong Trick Shot Evolution priced at ¥500. It’s currently only available in Japan but supports English and is expected to be localised (two of the three games have been). Check out the promo video here.

● The acclaimed Downwell was one of the many highlights on the Switch eShop this week, published by Devolver Digital and priced at ¥500 in Japan. Check out the Japanese trailer here and the full list of games release on the Japanese Switch eShop today (22 in total!) here.

● The only demo released this week on the Japanese Switch eShop this week is Raw Fury’s real-time strategy roguelite game Bad North. You can play in English if downloading the Japanese version.

● This week’s new preloads include GIRLS und PANZER Dream Tank Match DX for ¥8,208, Alvastia Chronicles for ¥1,296, Captain StarONE for ¥1,000, Pocket Academy 2 for ¥1,200, and Tsukue de Ping Ping for ¥800. The first and last game do not support English,

● In a slight update to our YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY- news from yesterday: the game will be priced at ¥1,980 (it’s available on the Japanese Switch eShop on 21 February published by PLAYISM). PLAYISM will also publish Necrobarista in Japan this Winter.

● Commemorating the 40th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam, Bandai Namco Entertainment have reduced the price of SD Gundam G Generation Genesis for Nintendo Switch on the Japanese Switch eShop by 40% (reduced from ¥7,344 to ¥4,400) until 13 February.

● One of 27 other games put on sale this week on the Japanese Switch eShop this week is the Sega puzzler Puyo Puyo eSports reduced by a huge 74% where it is on sale for just ¥500 until 13 February. Check out the current list of sale games here.

● RS34 will re-publish the shoot ‘em up Karous‐The Beast of Re:Eden‐ on the Japanese 3DS eShop next week (06 February) priced at ¥3,800. The game was originally published by Klon in 2014 but later removed from the eShop along with all other Klon titles.

● Atlus today published the Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth ‘Original Theme’ on the Japanese 3DS Theme Shop priced at ¥200. Image posted here.

● Final reminder that the Wii Shopping Channel will be closed in a few hours, with the final time to purchase software or additional content at 14:59 on 31 January (Thursday).

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp also saw Poppy’s Cocoa Cookie go on sale which unlocks a special memory starring Poppy, Gaston, and Merengue. See all the items at this post.

Dragalia Lost saw a fix to the issue in High Brunhilda’s Trial where High Brunhilda stopped moving for a certain amount of time instead of using her claw attack. 300 x Wyrmite have been sent to every player.

Fire Emblem Heroes saw the Mythic Hero Duma: God of Strength join the battle for both a Mythic Hero Summoning Focus and Mythic Hero Battle. Legendary Heroes Eirika, Tiki, and Lyn are also back. Introductory videos posted here and official artwork posted here.

● This week’s Media Create charts saw Kingdom Hearts III as the new number one, opening with 610,077. Last week’s number one, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe sold a further 57,725. Nintendo Switch hardware dropped to 52,429 and was narrowly outsold by PlayStation 4. Check out the full Nintendo hardware numbers and software charts at this post.

● In notes from Weekly Famitsu Issue No.1574: Idea Factory President Yoshiteru Sato said that all Otomate titles will release on Nintendo Switch and he’d like to make a SRPG like Spectral Force if there’s enough demand. The only Switch game reviewed was Super Treasure Arena with 25/40.

● And Nintendo Co., Ltd. shares dropped by +0.93% today to close trading at 33,150.00. Tomorrow’s trading likely closes before the third quarter results, so any effects will likely appear in Friday’s numbers.

● Koei Tecmo Games announced a Sengoku Musou (Samurai Warriors) 15th Anniversary Broadcast for 21:00 – 23:00 JST on 06 February. YouTube link here
