● Nintendo began a new ‘Classics!’ Spirits event in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate featuring Spirits from the Famicom and Famicom Disk System including Legend-class spirits Donkey Kong & Lady, Link and Sukapon as pictured here.

● Pygmy Studio announced thay are bringing the classic action-strategy RPG Bokosuka Wars Ⅱ to the Nintendo Switch eShop although no release date. Trailer for the PlayStation 4/Xbox One version posted here.

● Coconut Island Games announced the horror puzzle escape game DYING:Reborn Nintendo Switch Edition for the Japanese Switch eShop on 17 January priced at ¥1,155. Trailer posted here.

● Cosen announced the high-speed battle action game Panty Party for worldwide release on the Nintendo Switch eShop this Spring priced at ¥1,500. Trailer posted here.

● Cosen also announced the cute simulation game Piyorun Ikusei Nikki (Piyorun’s Observation Diary) for worldwide release on the Switch eShop in 2019 with price TBD.

● Devolver Digital announced the 2D vertical platform game Downwell for the Japanese Switch eShop on 31 January with Kakehashi Games handling the localisation. Launch trailer posted here.

● Check out the top 20 best-selling Japanese Nintendo 3DS eShop games of all time at this post with Pokémon Dream Radar and The Battle Cats POP! battling it out!

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp saw Tortimer’s Floral Fancy Second Half. Check out all the rewards here. The Nordic Patch Cookie was also available along with a free New Year’s headband.

Dragalia Lost saw the New Year’s Tidings: Fortune from Afar raid event and the Summon Showcase Eastern Emissaries begin. Check out the featured adventurers, dragons, and wyrmprints here.

Fire Emblem Heroes saw Special Heroes: New Year’s of Fire and Ice, and Tempest Trials +: An Alliance of Princesses featuring Fjorm: New Traditions, Hríd: Resolute Prince, Laevatein: Kumade Warrior, Gunnthrá: Year’s First Dream and Laegjarn: New Experiences. Trailers posted here and artwork here.

● Natsume President Hiro Maekawa said that Harvest Moon: Light of Hope Special Edition “performed well beyond our forecast and even set new sales record with the number of both physical and digital combined.” He also said “We are currently working on several new titles that will be announced in the near future, to continue to please our worldwide fans in 2019 and beyond.”

● Ojiro Fumoto (Downwell) tweeted "I was working at Nintendo for most of 2018 but I quit at the end of the year to pursue being an indie dev again. Working there was an incredible experience but ultimately I found my passion to simply be making a thing I want to make. So yeah, I’ll get working on that this year!”

● 13 Japanese companies including Dwango, Pixiv, Wright Flyer Live (GREE) and Unity with Nintendo as an observer intend to form VRM Consortium in February, with the intention of standardising the VRM file format for 3D human models in virtual reality. Check out the website here and trailer here.
