Suqare-Enix to ‘aggressively make games for Switch’

Takashi Mochizuki of The Wall Street Journal recapped the second quarter earnings briefing from Square-Enix on Twitter. Here are the highlights:-

  • The financial year forecast is unchanged implying Project Octopath Traveller and Dragon Quest XI (Switch version) will arrive next FY.
  • Switch’s core architecture is similar to PS4/Xbox One so some adjustment necessary, but multi-platform games are not impossible.
  • Switch’s momentum is strong and Nintendo doing great is good for Square-Enix.
  • The Switch is an ideal platform to put middle-range games, which Square-Enix is good at making, so they will work on these aggressively.
  • When considering games for Switch, Square-Enix won’t rule out any IPs. These include new ones, currently active ones and not-active ones.
  • These new Switch games may become multi-platform, but Square Enix promise to “aggressively make games for Switch”.
