Welcome to our fourth Mailbag post where I answer questions asking my thoughts on the recent Nintendo Direct and Dead Heat Breakers, anymore Nintendo announcements in 2017, my favourite 3DS design/colour, a 3DS successor, how many amiibo I have, my favourite 3DS year and potential of a Patreon. What did you think of the latest Nintendo Direct?
I really enjoyed it although trying to keep up running a news blog solo is hell! I know some were disappointed by the lack of major Japanese third party support but it will come. Capcom are the only disappointment, Koei Tecmo are brilliant, Bandai Namco are just getting going and Konami are Konami. My favourite announcement was probably DOOM. A true shocked Mii face moment!
Are you excited for The Dead Heat Breakers?
Yes I am! I enjoyed the previous games although not completed either of them. Really excited that Miis are included and I hope the series continues on (and Dillon gets more of a push from Nintendo – Smash 5?!).
Do you think we’ll be getting any more game announcements from Nintendo this year?
That’s a brilliant question. I can’t answer that directly as such as I do think there will be new announcements but no new unannounced retail games will release this year. I would expect maybe a Pushmo/Box Boy etc type game for Switch however. Maybe around holiday time. Mobile announcements are perhaps more exciting than Switch for me as we are due at least Animal Crossing news soon!
Are there any (New) Nintendo 3DS/2DS colors/editions that really stand out to you in particular?
By far the Dragon Quest Liquid Metal Slime Edition New Nintendo 2DS LL. I want it SO badly!
Do you think there’s going to be a 3DS successor? If so, why? Thanks early.
I do believe Nintendo when they said they have looked into this but I don’t believe we will see one. I do expect a portable only Nintendo Switch at some point however but I can’t see Nintendo making games for platforms other than Switch and mobile after 2018.
Has penguin wars been confirmed for the west? and does it have hd rumble?
No it hasn’t and no it hasn’t! I would expect some publisher (Dispatch Games?!) to pick it up as a) Soldam made it over and b) it’s an excellent game!
How many amiibo do you have? Any particularly good or rare ones? Any good stories about how you got them?
I have over 70 now. I guess the rarest is the Qbby one or my custom-coloured Kinopio-kun one (which is also my favourite one!). I don’t have any fun stories how I got any of them though. I have some un-fun stories how I haven’t got some though lol!
3DS will be seven next March(?), so what is your favorite year of 3DS? Which had the best games lineup in your opinion?
A great question! I have fond memories of 2013 when I began my blog and fell in love with Tomodachi Collection: New Life and like to think that I helped increase the awareness of the game. My favourite year was probably 2014. That year saw the greatest eShop-only game ever (the Japanese version of Gotta Protectors) plus Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS which pushed the machine to its limits!
Ever considered a patreon to cover domain fees?
I am considering a Patreon for some point in 2018 but I want to offer fun rewards that people would want regardless over any support for my blog. Hopefully it will be ready in a few months time but I’m very excited for it!
